Holding on AND letting go…

Holding on & letting goOn Tuesday my little peanut started cutting his first tooth…and it was a little rough on both of us. He was uncomfortable and tired. I was sad and uncertain.

I never want him to feel one moment of pain, but the reality is, I can’t prevent it either.

Pain is a part of life. Sometimes there’s a physical trigger, sometimes a life trigger and sometimes an emotional trigger – it’s all experienced, at varying degrees, in much of the same way.

My babe’s pain was triggered by the physical, but my pain by the other two. I felt sad that he was uncomfortable and I felt uncertain about how to best comfort him. I also felt sad because I recognize that we are entering a whole new phase.

I am excited about the new phase and I love watching him grow, but I’m also sad to say goodbye to where we’ve been. I’ve loved where we’ve been. My wave of sadness was just that – a wave. It was short lived, but it showed up.

AND IT’S OKAY!

Transitions come with mixed emotions.

Change is a process of holding on and then letting go.

Hold on and fully experience where you are when you’re there. Then let go, reach out and embrace what’s next. It’s sort of like being a trapeze artist.

But mid swing – when you’re suspended in air – it’s okay to have a moment. Don’t resist it! Just don’t stay in it for too long because if you do, you could miss your opportunity to grab onto the next.

Here’s to being a trapeze artist of life!
